A well-prepared event still needs directions to its entrance. A page needs a way in too: a related page on your site can link to the timer, and a relevant community may allow a useful share. Internal links also help search engines find the page, though discovery does not guarantee indexing. Visits from communities come from sharing, not search clicks.
Do this one thing now
Write a two-line entry plan: where someone can reach it from within the site, and where it would be relevant to introduce it elsewhere. Plan first; no sending is needed now.
Here is a completed example
On-site entry: A “Getting started with five-minute meditation” page links to the tool with “Open the five-minute timer.” Status: planned. External introduction: If a relevant discussion permits tools, answer the question and disclose that I made the timer. Status: rules not checked; not sent.

I do not have a website
Write the planned entry point and an unsent introduction beside your sketch. No community account is needed. Do not invent a record of a link you earned.
I have a website
Choose a genuinely relevant existing page first. If authorized, add the link and test it. Check rules and sending permission before external sharing. Keep an unsent draft when permission is absent, and record editing and sending separately.
Keep it on your own paper or in your own document. No upload is needed. Mark work you have not done “not checked”; do not guess.
How do I know I am done?
Your plan names an entry point and descriptive link text. External sharing has a relevant reason and an accurate send status. If you have a site and editing permission, test the entry link. “No suitable place to share yet” is a valid result.
What can wait?
Without a public page, only plan. Do not buy links, mass-message strangers, or remove login protection to promote a page.

How are search and promotion different?
Visits from non-ad search results are the organic search visits discussed here. Community posts, email, and other websites are different sources. Both may help, but a traffic increase after sharing is not evidence of higher search rankings.

Entry requirement
Enter with a functioning public page; do not broaden private-content access as a promotion tactic.
Goal
Complete a bounded discovery plan: reachable internally, appropriately shared externally, with search and referral traffic distinguished.
Concepts first
- SEO improves search understanding and discovery. Community, social, email, and ads are promotion. They can complement SEO, but a social visit is not an organic search click.
- A backlink is another site linking to yours. Genuine relevant references can aid discovery; ranking-manipulation links and spam are risky.
URL discovery
The search engine learns that a URL exists.
Do not confuse: Discovery does not mean the URL was crawled or indexed.
See examples and evidence →Crawling
A crawler requests a page and its resources from the server.
Do not confuse: A successful response does not prove indexing.
See examples and evidence →Indexing
The engine processes a page and stores information in its search index.
Do not confuse: Being indexed does not guarantee appearance for a particular query.
See examples and evidence →Sitemap
A file listing important URLs you want search engines to discover.
Do not confuse: Successful submission guarantees neither crawling nor indexing and does not replace navigation.
See examples and evidence →Internal link
A link from one page of your site to another.
Do not confuse: A sitemap entry is not an internal link; important links should be usable and crawlable.
See examples and evidence →Backlink
A link from another website to yours; your link to another site is outbound.
Do not confuse: Link count is not quality; buying or selling links to manipulate rankings is risky.
See examples and evidence →Inputs
- A checked public URL, intended audience, available channels, and their rules.
- Explicit scope: drafts only or approval to send to specified destinations. Preparing copy does not authorize mass outreach.
Actions
05.1Add an internal discovery route
Add a useful link from a relevant section or existing article with descriptive text. Walk the path to the page; do not rely solely on a sitemap or site search. Use your normal publishing process for changes.
Output: Entry page, anchor text, target URL, and verification.
05.2Pick one relevant external context
Choose one community, subscribed audience, or collaborator already interested in the problem. Read sharing rules. Explain what the page answers and disclose your relationship. If no suitable context exists, retain a draft rather than chasing a link count.
Output: One channel rationale and a contextual sharing draft.
05.3Review before sharing
Confirm destination, wording, platform rules, and permission. Send only within authorization. Avoid guaranteed-ranking link packages, unnatural exchanges, and unsolicited automated blasts. Separate sent items from drafts.
Output: Approved distribution record or clearly unsent draft.
05.4Separate channel outcomes
Use available analytics or channel evidence for visits and feedback. If using UTM tags, consistently tag external campaigns, not internal navigation, and never include personal data. Without analytics access, state not measurable rather than inventing numbers.
Output: Channel log: date, destination, draft/sent, tags, observable feedback, and unknowns.
Tools
- Site editor, browser, and authorized distribution channels. Existing analytics are optional; new tracking must respect privacy and consent requirements.
Tasks to delegate within this stage
Deliverables
- Discovery log with one verified internal entry and one external plan, accurately labeled by execution status. Sending is not mandatory.
Copy this stage’s blank template →
Acceptance criteria
- The page is reachable from relevant internal content, external plans fit the audience and rules, and organic search, referral/social visits, and business outcomes are recorded separately.
Stop conditions
- Do not send when promotion is prohibited, authorization is absent, or the page fails its promise. Investigate and correct misleading claims before expanding distribution.
Next step
Bring release dates, channel records, and feedback to stage 6.
